My doctor has put me on 2 mg Abilify at night and 2 mg of Rivotril and my sleep, althoough not perfect is much better, I haven't had any sleep paralysis episodes from the PTSD and I seem to have "normal" dreams (if dreams can be called normal) hehe.

I'm still tired though and wake up in the night in pain and find it hard to get up because of the pain.

But improvement is improvement!

Hi Qualia-Great to hear you're sleeping better without sleep paralysis. I used to have that night terrors I think it's called. I was in my 20's at the time though and was working a lot of 16 hour nights. Are you taking a extended release narcotic? That has helped me with breakthrough pain through the night and keeps the pain down while sleeping. Take care. Sara

Extended release narcotics don't work out so well for me for soe reason. My pain will rise up to meet the level of the narcotic and then its just like I'm on nothing at all. So I take short lived ones over the course of the day so my brain won't predict them. my pain behaves very atypically.

Yeah the night terrors were accompaning the sleep paralysis, if i could peel myself out of the paralysis I'd be up lurking the house with a knife I would be in so much terror. (My sleep disturbance is not just pain related but also is PTSD related from an assault and from being stalked, and I relive it sometimes.) Many times I'd forgo sleep until daylight because I'd be too scared to sleep in the night.
Ow Ow Ow Ow Ow.

Qualia,

That is greats news about sleeping better.  Way to go!!!

I have an awful time on ER narcotics and sleep.  They cause horrendous sleep disruption, so I also have to take only IR meds if needed at night.

Great hearing from you again, Qualia and I agree that any improvement IS improvement.  Stevie

Qualia, my Gawd, Night terrors. I have never experienced anything
like that. I used to go to sleep w a hammer under my pillow but
that was because I was living alone and I was always afraid of
someone breaking into the apartment.
I'm glad that your not doing so bad. Hopefully things will keep
getting better for you.

1st injured Feb, 1997. Was told it was "Soft Tissue" and sent back to work - no X-rays
Late 1997 attended 1st “Rehab Program” to strengthen back. Mid ‘98 PCP took me off work. Tried going back to work over the next couple years, mostly off work due to pain.
June 2000, met with OS for first time. Did MRI , damage was L5-S1 totally blown out. Surgery done Jan, 2001.
Another Rehab program late 2001, attempted to go back to work early 2002. Slipped on water, fell flat on back – screw fusion broke.
Went to 3rd Rehab program summer 2002.
Oct 2003 – 2nd Surgery, due to broken screw, had to operate from the front.
No improvement. Attended 4th Rehab program in 2004, at time it was decided NO work.
March 2006, had 3rd Surgery, this time fusion and instrumentation from Si to L3.
June 2008 Surgeon finally admitted I had Failed Back Surgery.

Qualia,

I'm so glad you're starting to get better sleep! I remember we all had quite a thread about loss of sleep and nightmares going, but night terrors are an entirely different beast.  It sounds like you're feeling very positive about it too, that's awesome! Thumbs Up I'm so happy for you, even an hour more of sleep is such a big deal mentally and physically, it's so different to actually get even half a night's sleep!

It's great to see you, and hope this continues working well for you.

Hi Qualia,

Great progress! I'm so pleased that things have improved a little bit.  Any good quality sleep is a help, even if it is interupted by pain.  I hope things continue to improve for you
